At the meeting with the Sverok workgroup for computer network administration (Sverok Stockholm Kansli-drift) today, the idea arose to let Sverok start hosting MU* servers on the network.

Is this interesting? (Quite) stable free MU* hosting. We provide diskspace and hosting, you (or someone else) provide games.

Sverok - for those not in the know :) - is a swedish association for gamers. They carry LARGE amounts of state grants to further gaming among swedish youth; and hosting a free gaming server is well within this scope. That it happens to help non-swedes to is just an additional bonus.

... while Stacken is trying to get rid of the MUD servers...

(The problem isn't the MUDs themselves, it's the server owner/operators and their failure to grasp certain fundamental concepts, like security patches, OS upgrades, clearly labeling the machines and my favorite: not realizing that I won't give the MUDs priority over the disk servers after a meltdown)

I'm not sure many MUDs cooperate nicely on the same machine and if they can run without being root, but hey, give it a go. Just make sure that you keep the machines updated.

Ooo, shiny! Y'all get grants for that? Wow. That's so cool. :)

Well, the grant system covers any activity among youths, as long as you do it in a democratic organisation...
