Here another one of the Lyrics Game. This time, all are covers, and I'm looking for title, original artist and the cover I have in mind. As usual, you will get first lines for all songs, and each of the three information bits, if correct, will earn you one point.

I will unscreen comments as they are checked for correctness; any comments that have arrived before I unscreen are eligible for the points, any that come later with the same information are not. I forgot to set the flag to screen comments. Oops.

I won't tell you not to google; but if you do and then realize you should have known, give the other contestants some time to think of it of their own before you submit? Also, just googling it all is too easy, and not quite sportsmanlike, is it?

For 5, we're still seeking the cover artist, who released the cover/remix on their latest studio album in 2009.

For 8, we're still seeking the original artist.

1. "In My Life," The Beatles, the only cover I know of is Bette Midler.
5. "Riders on the Storm," The Doors; no idea of any covers whatsoever.

Gah, why didn't I get this one before? I actually played this, too...

2. "Hallelujah," Leonard Cohen, and again I have no idea what cover we're talking about.

2. "Hallelujah", originally by Leonard Cohen. The cover artist could be Rufus Wainwright, Jeff Buckley, Justin Timberlake, John Cale, Allison Crowe, k.d. lang, Tim Minchin, or any one of several dozen other people; it's one of the most-covered songs in history.

4. "Hurt", originally by Nine Inch Nails, most famously covered by Johnny Cash.

6. "Personal Jesus", originally by Depeche Mode, and I'm guessing either Johnny Cash or Marilyn Manson for the cover artist.

7. "Black Celebration", also by Depeche Mode, no idea on the cover artist.

2. Halleluliah, original by Leonard Cohen, I'm guessing Jeff Buckley
3. All tomorrow's parties, Velvet Underground, can't think who's done a cover
4. Hurt, NIN, Johnny Cash
5. Riders on the Storm, the Doors, again I can't think who's covered it.
6. Personal Jesus, Depeche Mode, Marilyn Manson
7. Stripped, Depeche Mode, Rammstein
8. It was a very good year, Charles Aznavour (misspelled because I'm being good and not googling) and I know it's been covered, but I'm guessing you're not referring to the 1972 Toyota ad?

#1 is a Beatles song. Uh...

Well #2 is obviously from Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, which has been covered a number of times. Perhaps you're thinking of Rufus Wainwright? John Cale? Jeff Buckley?

4 is obviously Hurt from NIN. I can't think of who would have covered it since the original is so nifty. (Although a google search reveals that Johnny Cash covered this and it's interesting, although I don't believe as good as the original.)

5 is the name of a song by the doors... Covered?

And 6 is also the name of a song by Depeche Mode... but now that I think about it, Johnny Cash did an amazing cover.

#1 is from a Beatles song

Doh! It was Infected Mushroom that did the Riders on the Storm remix. I kept thinking about that but couldn't put a name on the band. Did they do the song at the show we went to? I vaguely remember...

My parents used to sing that "when I was seventeen" song from #8. Sinatra?

#1 - "In My Life", Beatles... did Johnny Cash do this one?
#2 - "Hallelujah", Leonard Cohen, just about everybody - guessing Jeff Buckley.
#3 - "All Tomorrow's Parties", Lou Reed... guessing Roxy Music, Iva Davies also covered this one.
#4 - "Hurt", NIN, Johnny Cash.
#5 - "Riders on the Storm", Doors, no idea.
#6 - "Personal Jesus", Depeche Mode, Johnny Cash.
#7 - "Stripped", DM again, Rammstein.
#8 - I think Statler and Waldorf covered this.

Robbie Williams does both 8 and 10 on his cover-album "Swing when you're winning".
8 is Frank Sinatra, 10 is "Ain't that a kick in the head" with Dean Martin.

#3: Original: The Velvet Underground and Nico, cover (and a remix) by Apoptygma Berzerk.

To be precise about the cover/remix remark: they did a remix with new a music track but the original lyrics (as "Nico vs. Apoptygma Berserk") which appeared in 2003 or 2004, and a cover version (with what's his face - Stefan Grohl? - singing) that appeared on the Soli Deo Gloria album in 1993!

... Was it Frank Sinatra? (I know he's sung it; but I'm not 100% sure he was the original singer)

Oh rats, just seen that someone else suggested Sinatra for #8, please ignore/delete the previous comment then.
