I don't pass by any lilac on my way to the office - and it probably wouldn't matter much if I had, since nobody's in the office (not entirely true - there's another PhD-student without a life in my room) and if there were, they still wouldn't understand the reference.
Nevertheless, this is a day of lilacs, a day of who was there and who can remember. It is a day of revolutions, a day of glorious ideals, and of a hardboiled eggs. For anyone so inclined, I can but refer to a more brilliant mind than mind with a much better way with words.
silmaril wrote eloquently about it at her journal. For an even more brilliant mind, and the origin of it all, I would refer to Pratchett. More specifically to 'Night watch'. If you haven't read it, then do. It is among the very best he has ever produced.
And remember the glorious 25th of May.
