Since I started my doctorate studies, I have started to - to a slightly worrying degree - spend all available time in the office. I work weekends. I work late nights. I pop in at the office at 11pm to get in touch with my fiancee - and do a little bit of reading, thinking, polishing, planning, hacking, updating, poking around while I'm here and at it.

I have no problems whatsoever getting a 70-80h workweek together. It just happens. To avoid it, I need to have something rather particular diverting me. This week, it's 48h at a LARP. A few weeks ago, it was a trip to Stockholm. But if no restraints are around, I go home to spend a few hours each day looking at tv-shows on the computer, then sleeping 7h and bouncing back up again to go to the office, correct the homework and write more on those seminar notes, read those books, learn those techniques...

I'm even contemplating picking one of the books in the pile here with me home to read while I'm falling asleep. I'm not really certain whether I should be profoundly worried, or just identify with my position as a PhD student^W^Winherent workaholic and relax. Read. And relax.

In other news - Cabaret (with Liza Minelli) makes me want to join a band. Preferably a 20's jazz band. It's a good thing Jena has such a love for dixieland.
