Swedish justice secretary misunderstands everything. Again.

In a popular radio show, the swedish secretary of justice, Thomas Bodström, sold a lock of his hair in an auction. Buyers ended up being the anti-copyright lobbyist organisation Piratbyrån. Now, this, after the last few days, is remarkable in it's own right - but what scares me is the quote that's making the rounds around the news outlets.

"Jag kände det på mig. Det tycker jag var fantastiskt. Och det absolut bästa är att nu får de upphovsrätten till mitt hår och får göra vad de vill med det." (Thomas Bodström, from SvD)

"I could have guessed. I think it was fantastic. And the very best about it is that they now hold the copyright of my hair and are allowed to do anything they want with it." (translation by me)

If this is what our secretary of justice thinks that copyright is about; then I should probably make sure I leave his jurisdiction. I would not have thought that either of the following would be in accordance with current swedish law:
1) Copyright is a sane concept of body parts
2) Copyright is a sane concept even on genetic material
3) Copyright extends from the sale of a single physical portion to the entire object (Eric Weisstein vs CRC Press, anyone?)
4) Copyright dictates what you may or may not do with a physical object in your legal possession.

If he thinks that possession legitimates any thinkable action, then I want any and all genetic materials from me in possession of any and all swedish institutions that follow governmental orders to be destroyed. Completely and immediately.

Wow. Either Swedish IP law is very different from U[KS] IP law, or that guy has no grasp whatsoever of the law he's meant to be enforcing. In either way, a bad situation.
