Leeds and mistaken couples

So here I am. Leeds. Mathematics fulltime - much more and much quicker start than I was ready for; and quite a bit of hard work needed to keep up with it at all.

It is all, however, complemented by the fact that the people here ROCK. That they're absolutely awesome. I met Bernhard Keller, got pointed to the norwegian guy who did the A-infinity structure on the cohomology of the cyclic groups, met Luchezar Avramov and gave him a copy of my paper reprint, and in general spent a lot of time around very many cool and interesting mathematicians.

Apart from pozorvlak, much of my Villars crowd is present: Arne Wiener is here, Hadi Zare'll appear tomorrow...

I started drinking beer. For the first time ever. I found in tot four beers that I find agreeable: Guiness, Tetleys, Caffreys, Humbleton. Ha' a pint o' each yesterday; and ha' a pint o' Guiness day before that, with mouthful samples of Tetleys and Caffreys. Tastes quite agreeable - surprisingly so.

Whereas most of my time is spent with mathematicians, ALL of my time is spent with sqrt of #math fame. She's cute, agreeable, highly interesting and also carries the keys to our hotel room - what reasons could I possibly have not to stay around her? This, apparently, is stretched far enough for people to start making assumptions. Along the end of the pub night yesterday - which included me telling everyone around about the gritty details of my relationship life, including detailed accounts of my fiancee proposing to me - one of the locals asked sqrt whether we were an item: disregarding the fact that she very clearly does not and has not carried a ring, that she's not named Susanne, and that she actually didn't know about the details of the proposal.

Not that I'd mind terribly to be taken for her boyfriend, it just has very little grounding in reality, y'know...

Today'll bring the blogmeet... Me, sqrt, Kit, Gooseania and Hadi Zare are meeting up to do the town together.
