I wanted to figure out where I need to go to get my Social Security Number tomorrow morning. So I go onto ssa.gov and use their office locator.

And it's closed for the night.

A webpage search tool.

What moron included in the spec of that webpage that it should lose its usability at 1am est? And WHY??

Actually, there might be a rational reason for that. Some database maintenance / backup might be safer (or in some cases only possible) to do while the application is offline. Of course, while this might motivate an hour or possibly two of downtime each night, it is no reason to close down for several hours, and 1am seems unnecessarily early. But then, USA is a country of many time zones ...

I would have an easier time understanding that if it wasn't for that the application in question is looking things up in a reasonably static database - I mean ... how often DO they open up new SSA offices anyway?
