Song meme

Nicked off of [livejournal.com profile] reynardo and [livejournal.com profile] lederhosen.

Below are lyrics from the first 15 songs to show up.

I warn you now - my choices are somewhat eclectic, and this does not in the slightest cover the range I listen to. But see if you can work out the song from the lyrics. I've gone with the first few lines unless they particularly mention the song's title. I have skipped a number of instrumental pieces.

It now is time for the great reveal: all titles/artists have been added below.

And here there be music. )

Actual posing of questions might be dependent on my workload. I'll try - but then I still haven't been able to cover the photo request meme from way back.

1. Leave me a comment saying anything random, like your favourite lyric to your current favourite song. Or your favourite kind of sandwich. Something random. Whatever you like.
2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions.

All the cool kids ([livejournal.com profile] silmaril, [livejournal.com profile] lederhosen and others) are doing it, so here's one from me:

I give IMDB keywords. You give the movie title belonging to them. For extra bonus, tell me one keyword that all share. And don't cheat unless you really, really want to be boring.

And this is the meme that results

1. One book that changed your life: Boy. I think Douglas Hofstadter's Gödel Escher Bach, an Eternal Golden Braid may qualify. It certainly did change my way of thinking. Other than that, my life hasn't really had these huge changes that weren't in some way foreseeable; but on the other hand books have played rôles in these premonitions - such as the Sigma book series as an early indication I would end up in mathematics...

2. One book that you’ve read more than once: There are quite a few, y'know. But I'll go with the Illuminati! trilogy by the two Roberts for the insanity value.

3. One book you’d want on a desert island: I'm joining in the "Nothing's gonna not be boring after the fifth read through, so a survival guide is a good idea" chorus.

4. One book that made you laugh: Anything from the Discworld series. And Good Omens. I like absurdist humour - there are MANY books to bring under this.

5. One book that made you cry: I think Anne Frank's diary was pretty wrenching. But it was loooong ago, so I don't really remember.

6. One book that you wish had been written: Right now, I'm rooting for Functional programming in Haskell for homological algebraists with a strong computational and computational algebra background - but I think I may be a very significant part of the readership of such a book, so it'll probably never appear.

7. One book that you wish had never been written: Goooood question. I cannot recall really hating a book enough to wish for that; though some of the bile Mats Wahl has been writing certainly made me throw the books away.

8. One book you’re currently reading: Should I be geeky? I probably can outgeek a lot of you. But I guess non-fiction is cheating. So ... On a pale horse by Piers Anthony

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read: The Book of Mormon

10. Now tag eight people: Nope. I don't do taggings. But if you like the meme, please do it.

Put your iPod or iTunes or whatever you use to listen to MP3s on random or shuffle. Use the corresponding songs to answer the following questions. Don't reshuffle your songs just because you don't like them or because you don't want anyone to know you have Styx on your iPod.

1) What do you think of me?
Rammstein: Amour - Wow. Thanks! I .. ummm .. you do know I'm already engaged, right?

2) Will I have a happy life?
Pasadena Roof Orchestra: Paddlin Madelin Home - Well... Won't it get boring after a while? I know that happy-swing is .. well .. happy, but ... my entire life?

3) What do my friends really think of me?
Einstürzende Neubauten: Zum Tier Machen - I'm not one already? o.O

4) Do people secretly lust after me?
Die Fantastischen Vier: Albert und die Philosophen - Oh, they do, do they? Hrm. Well. I don't know how to put this, but...

5) How can I make myself happy?
Bob Rivers: I love your breasts the way they are - Well, I guess I should just stop trying to get back into shape then?

6) What should I do with my life?
Stefan Raab: Maschendrahtzaun - So .. mathematician is out?

7) Why must life be so full of pain?
Simon & Garfunkel: Scarbourough Fair - Ummmmmmm, what?

8) Will I ever have children?
Assemblage 23: Surface.grip - *blink*blink*

9) Will I die happy?
Schandmaul: Tyrann - I dunno what to say about this. I never thought of myself as someone valuing power for power itself, but...

10) Can you give me some advice?
Gigi D'Agostino: Another way - Right. Get right back at it, it is?

11) What do you think happiness is?
Infected Mushroom: Nothing comes easy

12) What is my favorite fetish?
Dahler Mehndi: Bolo ta ra ra - saaaaay what? Dancing indian girls? Or?

13) How will I be remembered?
Bizet: Toreador - How did I end up bullfencing. Really. I wanna know what happened.

Huge bookmeme ) And of course, there are many of these that I know from their cinematic adaptions, many of these that I may or may not own and or have read, but cannot, at this point, remember.

Yup. I'm stuck again. An offhand comment, a full night of video-editing and I present to you The Thesis Song in perfect internet-meme format (at the Internet Archive for bandwidth reasons).

For those not having encountered it so far, this is a videofying of the Llama song and Dalek song clone by [livejournal.com profile] charliesmum that may be found over at chavvah.

Please, do link this. I'd love to be the originator of a meme.
